Basketball: Will the Seagulls win the championship today?

For the first time in history, the Diplomat Arena was able to witness the championship celebrations of the Piešťanské Čajky team. With a score of 2:1, the spa’s basketball players will receive their opponents from Ružomberok on Wednesday, April 27 at 6:00 PM.

It certainly won’t be easy, as the general progress of the last series of the Women’s Nike Extra League shows. Extremely balanced duels, which are usually decided literally at the end. On Saturday, luck was on the side of Piešťany, they won by 2 points – 67:65, and the match ball for the championship was handed over to them.

Such a phenomenon has never happened in the previous five last appearances, so coach Petr Jankovič’s men have to deal with a new situation and also the pressure arising from the charge of the fourth last encounter.

“We have a very difficult game ahead of us. It must be remembered that we are still playing against the current champion and Ružomberok has a great quality. They certainly don’t come just to play a match and they don’t give anything for free away. We have to prepare for it. However, I believe we will make it,” Jankovič said before the meeting.

The interesting thing about the last series is that all the meetings ended with a difference of one figure. This also proves that Wednesday will probably be the highlight of the Piešťany season so far in terms of attractiveness. The sight of championship celebrations has never been so close and so far away at the same time.

“The last step is usually the most difficult, it’s not just a sentence, but it really is. We have to face this match with concentration from the first minute. It is the fourth game of the series, the teams know each other, there is not much to surprise you. It will be about small details, energy and concentration. We have to focus on the match itself and the teamwork, and not in advance on the historical success that we can prove. As a team we succeeded to win two matches together and this is the only way we can succeed for the third time. Ružomberok will not give us anything for free, but I believe we can prove it. We hope that the hall will be full and that the fans will support us will push forward,” said Čajok captain Matea Tadić ahead of Wednesday’s game.

The club is registering great interest in tickets for the fourth final match in the Diplomat arena and has therefore launched the possibility to pre-purchase them from Monday during lunch (11am – 2pm) in the Diplomat arena restaurant. . The box office for the match is open from 4.30 pm, we recommend arriving well in advance.
