The championship promises a fairly even course with many NBA and Euroleague players. Among them, three NBA stars in particular stand out: Luka Dončič (Slovenia), Nikola Jokic (Serbia) and Giannis Antetokounmpo (Greece).

The 2017 title will be defended by Slovenia, which defeated Serbia in the final. Spain won the bronze after their victory over Russia. The matches are broadcast by ČT Sport.

The most successful squad in history is the Soviet Union with 14 wins. Czechoslovakia enjoyed the title in 1946.
