The Slovakia women’s soccer team has gone through another qualifying cycle, competing for a spot at next year’s world championships in Australia and New Zealand.
They finished fourth in the A group qualifier with eight points from eight games for two wins over Georgia and a draw with Ireland and Finland. The winners of the Swedish group went straight to the championship, the second Irish women went to the playoffs.
“I’m happy that we had a performance that matched our ideas, that we scored with 2nd and 3rd place opponents, that we didn’t concede a single tennis result from our group’s sovereign and the team of the European top, Sweden. This are undeniable positives, justifying positive feelings. The opposite was caused by the fact that mathematically we are two points less at the final table than in the last European Championship qualifier and we are also one place lower than where we were placed in. These are the reasons why the feeling curve wavered for me,” coach Peter Kopúň evaluates the performance of his charges in the battle for the 2023 World Cup in an interview on the official website of the Slovak Football Association (SFZ).
“Mathematics does not let go when calculating the coefficient and the latter when placing in the performance baskets, the enjoyment of the game is essential for the players and our fans, who we want to attract even more to our matches. For me these are his two interrelated factors, I consider neither more important.” the chief mate thinks.
Women’s football is making significant strides in the world, so it is questionable whether Slovakia has caught on to this trend. “The Women’s Euro in England showed that the top teams broke away from the rest, but the more numerous the rest try to narrow the gap, to get closer to the best. This found a response from people and donor partners, which is why there were more people at the women’s European Championship matches than the men’s championship. The question was focused on what’s happening in our country, okay: it’s nice that our domestic women’s league also has a related entity, after which it is already named. are approached by interested parties from abroad. Personally, I see progress, but I don’t see the presentation to the public enough.” added Kopúň for futbalsfz.sk.
